Photos: Electric Daisy Carnival wraps preparations for tonight's opening

With less than three hours to go, the final preparations for tonight's Las Vegas premiere of 15th annual Carnival for electric Daisy. It looks now empty, glancing at Tom Donoghue Photography Gallery, but over the next three nights--from 8 p.m. to sunrise tonight, tomorrow and Sunday--this will be the scene of the biggest electronic dance music festival in North America.

Some predict a time-record turnout of up to 250,000 fans through the gates to the Las Vegas Motor Speedway. 1,000-Acre site will display more than 200 performers works for and of the six stages. Thurston Moore opened EDC at 8 tonight and Vegas DeLuxe will cover it with a team of writers and photographers led by Editor Don Chareunsy.

"so far, so good" at electric Daisy Carnival say Metro Police

The lights are on, the music is playing, and as long as everything smoothly at the electric Daisy Carnvial, said Metro Police.

"so far, so good," says Capt. Dave O'Leary. "It has been very mild. Folks have been behaving themselves. "

From 9: 30 p.m. said it reported no arrests as people continued to archive in through the front doors, but there were about 20-30 medical incidents, mainly heat related, police. The show was scheduled to start at 8

More than 250,000 people are expected to descend on Las Vegas Motor Speedway during three nights of electronic dance music festival, which will show 140 DJs, 25 carnival rides, light shows and art installations.

Security at the event has been a concern. At an electric Daisy Carnival in Dallas last Saturday, a man died and more than two dozen others were hospitalized for drug-, alcohol-and heat-related medical emergencies.

In Las Vegas, there is a large Metro police presence at the event, which is also the projects to be staffed by private security, and about 80 medical dependents.

Traffic to the event has been slow, but it has not been any accidents near speedway, O'Leary said.

"The biggest challenge now is to get people blocked," he said.

With the sun down, temperatures in the Valley have fallen to 95 degrees, according to the National Weather Service, and is expected to dip as low as 81 degrees overnight as the party rages on until sunrise.
