Las Vegas casino has always had its signature entertainment attraction: The Sands had Rat Pack. Hilton had Jumpsuit Elvis.
MGM has today more Cirque than Montreal. And Caesar's Celine.
Palms? It has DJ Pauly D.
No, seriously.
It is not a poke on trendy Vegas casino-turned-Hollywood hangout. It is a sign that resort know their clientele Palms owner George Maloof said.
He compares the new resident DJ – and "Jersey Shore" reality-TV star with four-inch spiked blowout haircut — other resorts big production show. "We certainly see it that way for our demographic," Maloof said.
Palms began to understand the drawing power of big name DJs are some six years ago, "he said. "DJs is that celebrities now. They are rock band was 20 years ago. So it is an important part of the Las Vegas scene. We have been right in the middle of it and we'll continue to be, "he said.
This is where we must make something clear: we are not talking about your wedding DJs, but quite talented music management that takes other artists ' tracks-and even its own musical productions – and samples and combine them to create something new. In the process, the DJ has become so famous as recording artists themselves.
Palms has much created DJ headliner trend in Las Vegas that followed.
The landfill was 2008, when exit landed Elvis DJs, Paul Oakenfold, for a period of its Rain night club.
"I think Vegas is the new Ibiza," said Oakenfold Las Vegas weekly before his party's 30 Aug. 2008, launch, invoking club-heavy Spanish island. "We got to get Vegas on the map internationally. This Club could benefit the Vegas in a global, international scene, and I think it is about time Vegas was. It is a grown-up town now. Now is the time to participate at the global level. "
And that is what has happened. Las Vegas is fast overtaking Ibiza, Spain, as electronic dance music capital of the world ", noted Los Angeles Times in an article of the week.
The success of Las Vegas clubs can largely rise and fall of a DJ.
It is an adaptation, "says Michael Fuller, former vice President of N9NE group, which operates the nightclubs Rain, Ghostbar, Moon and Playboy Club, N9NE Steakhouse restaurants and Nove at the Palms.
Fuller would know. He has long been a significant presence in Vegas nightlife and helped to bring big-name resident DJs Palms, including Oakenfold, late DJ AM and Z-trip.
-There are only around 10 DJs in Las Vegas that sell tickets, "he said. And Pauly D is in that group.
In the matter, which can be between 1,500 and 2,000 tickets per night, said Fuller. To put it in perspective, presented Cirque du Soleil's "Love" show at the Mirage in a theatre with 2,013 locations. Bellagio's o Theatre has 1,800 seats and Theater at Aria where ' Viva elvis ' is performed in locations 2 000.
Celebrity DJs residence attract large crowds. Pauly D, for example, before more than 2,000 people at the Palms in March, Maloof said. But these DJs will cost big money.
Typical DJs in Vegas can earn a few thousand dollars a night, but celebrity DJs in residence permits can be from tens of thousands of dollars six figures per appearance, said industry insiders.
Because Pauly D is best known for his antics on MTV's highly rated reality series, has, of course, some asked whether he is a legitimate talent behind the turntables.
Maloof says Yes.
"He is a great DJ. He has been a DJ for 10 years. So it's a special talent that he has and he just so happens to be on the show, "he said.
Pauly d recognises that his success on television has contributed to the DJ side of his career. And Lands a gig at the Palms is in many ways DJ's equivalent of a baseball player making it to the big leagues.
-Course show picked up with my DJ career but I had to show them what I could do, "he said. -It is always where I wanted to stop. A dream for me was that (a) DJ at the Palms. "
Now it has come full circle, will a new MTV reality show focused on Pauly D'S DJ career. Parts of that show will be recorded on the Palms, "he said.
Pauly d run Palms ' latest DJ domicile began Friday. He will spin on the Moon, rain and Palms Pool and Bungalows.
Pauly D, who has been nominated for America's 2011 best DJ award, will join artists such as DJ AM industry royalty, Oakenfold and DJ Jazzy Jeff, who have all had a chance to spin from Palms's DJ booth.
Palmer, in the hope Pauly D will draw packed audiences as he has in the past, have scheduled him for a 12-Show residence permits through the rest of the year.
And this may cause this decade Rat Pack has two turntables and a microphone.
